“The reuse of Former Berati Textile Combine”

Albania, as a former communist country, has an important industrial history, this because of all the ideology of the system. The industrialization of the country span a period of almost 150 years starting from the earlier industrial traces to the end of the communist era. The assessment aims to revitalize and reuse these structures irrespective of their current function. The process of de-industrialization in Albania has led to the depopulation and the abandonment of entire industrial areas. Today, the challenge rests on how to put industrial spaces back into function. This paper focuses in analyze of the former industrial areas, more specifically the extension of the painting factory of Berati Textile Combine. With the enlargement of the city, former peripheral areas are becoming grey “spots” inside the city. Since Berati is part of UNESCO, it is unacceptable to have this sort of image inside the city. But not just that, the Berati Textile Combine was the biggest in Albania, so the revitalization of this iconic object of Albanian Industrial Archeology is crucial not only for the city but for Albania also
